Customer Testimonial | Ross Contractors
From a modest beginning as a family-owned company in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs, Ross Contractors has grown to become a leader in the industry for premium sand and clay products, hauled daily with their fleet of Kenworth trucks supplied by the team here at CMV Truck Centre. We were thrilled with the opportunity to spend the afternoon with the family, Eric, Darren, Sharyn, and Brady, our valued customers of Ross Contractors, at their private sand and clay mine located at One Tree Hill.
Ross Contractors is a family owned and operated business here in SA, founded by Darren and Sharyn’s mother and father, Eric and Maureen Ross in 1974. “Our association with CMV Truck Centre began in 1976 when my father purchased his first brand new truck from the late Mr. Jim Crawford” says Darren. In 2001, Darren purchased the company’s first T404 and has been running the Kenworth product ever since, from T3, T4, T6, K2 to T9 and most recently, the much anticipated T610.
“There are two different aspects to our business. We have the mining division, where my father Eric at 72 years of age still works here at the quarry daily. We send out various clays and sands, and market up to 15 different products out of our private mine here at One Tree Hill. We run a range of different configurations from B Double to PBS truck and dog, but there’s always Ross Contractors trucks carting out of this quarry on a daily basis” explains Darren as he takes us through the quarry.
“Kenworth have a truck suitable to every aspect of our business, from PBS truck and dog right through to road trains. The reliability and service we receive from CMV Truck Centre is second to none, and we’ve got a great relationship with Jarrod and Brad from the sales team, as well as Jono and the team in parts and service. The boys always offer a quick and efficient solution to whatever we require” explains Darren, when asked why he’s held to Kenworth product for so many years.
“My father had several dealings with the late Jim Crawford, and this relationship has continued through with myself and Jono Crawford, with CMV being our preferred supplier of our Kenworth trucks. Our families hold a three-generation long relationship, and we have my nephew Brady getting heavily involved and interested in the Kenworth truck and family owned business, as Jono and myself did with our fathers. Our families really are very similar,” says Darren.
Business for Ross Contractors is all about uptime, keeping trucks on the road, wheels turning and delivering loads to customers in a timely manner. “We don’t have spare trucks sitting around, thus without the supply of good trucks, service and parts, it impacts our business. We need reliability and quality service and parts which is what keeps us coming back, and in turn, keeps our customers happy. It’s a good fit, Ross Contractors and the Kenworth product,” says Darren.
